Problem Ownership
Jan 11th, 2010 by Dr. Paul
In a recent episode, we talked about homework, and the issue of problem ownership came up.
Every problem has an owner. The person who owns the problem is the person who is bothered or upset.
The one most likely to solve any given problem is the person who owns it.
Practical examples of problem shifting are discussed including:
Kid’s toys are left out.
Kid’s laundry not done.
Homework not done.

Thank you so much for this podcast! As parents of a 7-year-old, a 9-year-old, and a 14-year-old, this is definitely something we struggle with. I take on so many more problems than I should! I love this perspective — it has been really helpful for me!
